MARCEL WANDERS BOOK: AMSTERDAM'S CREATIVE CAPITAL

During next week's Hong Kong Business of Design Week famed Dutch designer Marcel Wanders will present a 20% prototype of his book "Amsterdam’s Creative Capital." The book, edited by Willemijn van Herwijnen, highlights Amsterdam's creative history. Anneloes van Gaalen worked on the book as researcher, translator and copywriter.

UK premiere of the dcoumentary Faces at the UK Jewish Film Festival in London.

FACES SCREENED IN PARIS

Faces to be screened at the Festival Européen des 4 Ecrans in Paris on November 15 at cinéma MK2 Bibliothèque Paris.

FACES SCREENED AT STANFORD UNIVERSITY

The documentary Faces continues to travel the world. On October 24 the film will be screened at Stanford University.

The screening of the movie is co-presented with Arab Film Festival and San Francisco Jewish Film Festival and is part of the 11th edition of the United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF).

NEDERLANDS FILM FESTIVAL

The documentary ‘Faces,’ which premiered at IDFA last year, is part of the official program of the Nederlands Film Festival (Dutch Film Festival). ‘Faces’ tells the fascinating story of French photographer and street artist JR who in March 2007 embarked on the biggest illegal photo exhibition ever. Together with his friend Marco, JR pasted enormous smiling portraits of Israeli and Palestinians who hold the same job on different sides of the wall. From the first photo shoots to the eventual pasting in such hotbeds like Bethlehem, Tel Aviv, Hebron and Ramallah: the camera was there, capturing JR’s work, the pasting, but also the emotional reactions of the people of Israel and Palestine.

LE COOL BOOK IN MONOCLE

The wonderful style bible that is Monocle has a loveley feature on the LE COOL book. The book is also mentioned in other October editions of tons of (inter)national magazines, including Dutch Marie Claire.

MARIE CLAIRE ITALIA

The October issue of Marie Claire Italia has a special on creative talent in Europe. In total three Amsterdammers were featured: PIPS:lab, 21bis (Frank Dresmé) and Anneloes van Gaalen, whose picture was taken by photographer Lianne van de Laar.

FOUR WEEKS OF FREEDESIGNDOM

Two Dutch cities. More than fifteen events. For over thirty days. Introducing: 4 Weeks of FreeDesigndom. A month-long celebration of design and fashion starting on September 10, 2008.

This September will see the first edition of 4 Weeks of FreeDesigndom. The two Dutch cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht have combined forces and for four weeks straight they will host a great variety of internationally-oriented design and fashion events. Events that cater to the needs of design and fashion aficionados, industry and media professionals, as well as the general public. It’s a month-long celebration of creativity, innovation, fashion and design right in the heart of Holland.

STREETLAB ZUIDOOST

Streetlab is a large-scale festival for young ‘street based’ fashion-makers and designers. This urban event features an unprecedented combi­nation of fashion shows, exhibitions, workshops, master classes, music, photography and film. During 4 weeks of FreeDesigndom, Streetlab will set up shop in the Southeastern part of Amsterdam, right next to the new train station Bijlmer ArenA.

Anneloes van Gaalen was the editor of the accompanying festival guide.

LE COOL BOOK HITS BOOK STORES

Designed by Lava and edited Anneloes van Gaalen, this guide tells the story of a Dutch city filled with energy and creativity. It shows an Amsterdam away from the tourists and dope smokers, filled with secrets that will amaze the most dedicated Amsterdammers.

The book costs 19,99 Euro and is for sale at Athenaeum, American Book Center and Stedelijk Museum.

IN VIVA ONCE MORE

This week, Holland's biggest woman's magazine Viva did a feature on multi-tasking career women. Three young women - Lisa Boersen, Caroline Luik and Anneloes van Gaalen - were asked about the perks and pressures that come with trying to excel at multiple jobs simultaneously.
