NEDERLANDS FILM FESTIVAL

The documentary ‘Faces,’ which premiered at IDFA last year, is part of the official program of the Nederlands Film Festival (Dutch Film Festival). ‘Faces’ tells the fascinating story of French photographer and street artist JR who in March 2007 embarked on the biggest illegal photo exhibition ever. Together with his friend Marco, JR pasted enormous smiling portraits of Israeli and Palestinians who hold the same job on different sides of the wall. From the first photo shoots to the eventual pasting in such hotbeds like Bethlehem, Tel Aviv, Hebron and Ramallah: the camera was there, capturing JR’s work, the pasting, but also the emotional reactions of the people of Israel and Palestine.

The wonderful style bible that is Monocle has a loveley feature on the LE COOL book. The book is also mentioned in other October editions of tons of (inter)national magazines, including Dutch Marie Claire.

MARIE CLAIRE ITALIA

The October issue of Marie Claire Italia has a special on creative talent in Europe. In total three Amsterdammers were featured: PIPS:lab, 21bis (Frank Dresmé) and Anneloes van Gaalen, whose picture was taken by photographer Lianne van de Laar.

FOUR WEEKS OF FREEDESIGNDOM

Two Dutch cities. More than fifteen events. For over thirty days. Introducing: 4 Weeks of FreeDesigndom. A month-long celebration of design and fashion starting on September 10, 2008.

This September will see the first edition of 4 Weeks of FreeDesigndom. The two Dutch cities of Amsterdam and Utrecht have combined forces and for four weeks straight they will host a great variety of internationally-oriented design and fashion events. Events that cater to the needs of design and fashion aficionados, industry and media professionals, as well as the general public. It’s a month-long celebration of creativity, innovation, fashion and design right in the heart of Holland.

STREETLAB ZUIDOOST

Streetlab is a large-scale festival for young ‘street based’ fashion-makers and designers. This urban event features an unprecedented combi­nation of fashion shows, exhibitions, workshops, master classes, music, photography and film. During 4 weeks of FreeDesigndom, Streetlab will set up shop in the Southeastern part of Amsterdam, right next to the new train station Bijlmer ArenA.
