WORLD PREMIER FACES AT IDFA

World premier of the documentary Faces at IDFA on November 28. The movie will be screened at Tuschinski Theater in the presence of the director and JR. Tickets for the screening can be bought at the IDFA site.

Date: November 28
Time: 19:30
Location: Tuschinski Theater, Hall # 1

The documentary ‘Faces’ tells the fascinating story of French photographer and street artist JR who in March 2007 embarked on the biggest illegal photo exhibition ever. Together with his friend Marco, JR pasted enormous smiling portraits of Israeli and Palestinians who hold the same job on different sides of the wall. From the first photo shoots to the eventual pasting in such hotbeds like Bethlehem, Tel Aviv, Hebron and Ramallah: the camera was there, capturing JR’s work, the pasting, but also the emotional reactions of the people of Israel and Palestine.

CONCRETE CANVAS AMSTERDAM PREMIERES NOVEMBER 26

Voom’s Gallery HD, the only high-definition channel devoted to the visual arts, is taking it to the streets for an in-depth look at the visually stunning and often controversial world of street art in a new half-hour weekly series, Concrete Canvas. The series explores the works of each city’s most famous -- and in some cases, infamous -- street artists, including London’s D*Face, Amsterdam’s Laser 3.14, New York’s Swoon, and Paris’ Blek le Rat, the “Godfather of Stencil Art.” Miss van Gaalen served as creative consultant for the Amsterdam episode.

Episode 6: Amsterdam
TV-G
Premieres November 26 at 8 pm ET and PT/7C
Beever’s 3D work in Holland’s most picturesque port-of-call brings to life the city’s most famous icons – tulips, canals, bridges and of course, its Dutch master painters. This episode also presents noted street artist Laser 3.14 and his “Aerosol Symphonies” exhibition, where the works of 14 street artists are married with music, as well as Faith 71, whose spray can pieces graduated from the streets to the galleries.

THE AFTERMATH: DEBATE ON ART IN PUBLIC DOMAIN

This summer the city council of Amsterdam objected to the JR exhibition. What followed was a very public debate about JR's work. Following the controversy, the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts - one of the sponsors of the JR exhibition - is organizing a debate on art and the public domain.

BOOK LAUNCH: MASTERS OF RIETVELD

This book contains an overview of a selection of great and important designers who have emerged from the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. This book is almost a work of art in itself, full of visual references ordered by form, as if it were a morph. The visual concept by Coralie Vogelaar refers to the idea of an encyclopedia as we once knew it before the digital revolution. The designer’s task today is not so much to make new images as to give new meaning to the bombardment of images around us.

Book launch:
Saturday 27 October at 20:00

Contributors include:
Martijn Engelbregt, Anneloes van Gaalen, Mieke Gerritzen, Oscar Kocken, Ank van Loon, Geert Lovink, Rob Schröder, TINKEBELL, and more.

NO REST FOR THE WICKED!

I was supposed to enjoy a nice quiet holiday but there were just too many cool projects thrown my way! There's a UK-based television production, as well as a couple of new clients. Blend Magazine asked if I would do their Art pages and I have also just started writing for American magazine Good! Also bought an HD film camera and have shot my first item on graffiti legend Miss Van. And then there are some other projects, which I can't discuss too much at the moment but they include a documentary, book projects, new exhibitions and some other exciting projects.

JR: THE CONTROVERSY

A bit of media attention is nice but the current amount of media interest is pretty overwhelming. The city council has come to the conclusion that JR's photos are illegal advertising. We were told to remove the posters within 2 weeks or pay a 15.000 Euro fine! A press release was written, which was picked up by all papers (Volkskrant, NRC, Parool, AD, Amsterdam Weekly and De Standaard) and other media (NOS op 3, RTV NH, AT5) and days later the debate about JR's work and art in the public domain is gaining momentum.
"This controversy is brought to you by JR, Emile, Marco and Anneloes."

JR FACE 2 FACE GETS RAVE REVIEWS

It was a year in the making but the JR exhibition in Amsterdam and at Foam is a huge success. We've spent a whole week (both day and night!) pasting buildings all over the city. At the extremely busy opening party there were rave reviews. In fact, the reactions of the public and critics alike have been positively overwhelming! Thanks to everybody who has helped to make this happen...
